nyc and va highlights.

so i got really busy and totally forgot to update.

lots of the same old same old but some highlights:

in new york city went to three great restaurants:

vynl in hells kitchen- lots of delish vegetarian/vegan options and really wonderful atmosphere.

red bamboo- AMAZING vegan food had an amazing 'chicken' parmesean with pumpkin cheesecake for desert. right near west 4th street. fantastic fantastic stuff

some sushi place on st. marks that had 1/2 off sushi rolls. not my fave sushi ever but it was cheap so i ate there

house of lion in fairfax va- attached to the hotel i was staying in- really wanted asian food so i ordered sweet and sour eggplant- totally delish higher level asian food

on the highway in maryland the maryland house rest stop has a food place inside of it that has real non iceberg salads and free pickels. loved that.

so yeah other than that it's been a lot of cereal and leftovers. home for thankgsiving right now which is very exciting!

dc and lakewood nj

so while i was in dc I pretty much just ate trader joes's vegan nuggets on sunday morning we went out to martin's in georgeotwn.

monday we drove to lakewood new jersey after the show. i had a granola bar in teh am for breakfast
lunch we went to the george washington univ. student union thing where i went to their vegan bar and had a 'chik'n' stir fry as well as sweet potatoes and broccoli and cauliflower, delish! a bit pricey but totally worth it.
dinner i had tortilla chips and guacamole as well as tofu with corn after a pretty decent workout while watching house and lie to me.

today! i am feeling like shit. sore throat and slight fever and headache. it sucks. because i'm outside of philly and i really wanted to go to govinda's tonight but i am just not in the mood. i'm definitely going to go tomorrow.
breakfast i had a big bowl of cereal with rice milk
lunch i snacked int eh car and for dinner i think i'm going to have a tj's pasta bowl and tomato soup, hopefully all this acetaminophen and sore throat spray and water will make me feel better. we will see.

danvilla, VA and the drive to DC/Dc

so the past two days!

friday:

our show was cancelled due to hurricane ida so it was a pretty low key day
breakfast: corn flakes with vanilla rice milk
lunch: ida microwavable crinkle fries (so good and they were crispy even! got to love frozen foods)
dinner: the rest of my snap peas and coconut thai noodles from a box (i forget what it's called but i love them!)

today:
breakfast: cereal again with rice milk
lunch: las labas (sp?) a great mexican restaurant near union station in DC
dinner: vegan nuggets from trader joes! (so excited to see one of those again)

tomorrow I might check out the smithsonians and potentially see an imax film and maybe try to get some delicious viatnemese food in georgetown.

greenville sc to durham nc

so today was a great day.

breakfast: the quality inn off of 385 in greenville had a real breakfast for once and the guy who cooked it was really adorable when i told him what i didn't eat and i got to have some pretty decent hash browns as well as i snagged a delicious gala apple that i had later. in a sea of crappy continental breakfast's this was an island of beauty for a very early and incredibly rainy morning (thanks hurricane ida)

lunch: atlanta bread company! kind of like panera, but not as good. well the salad was way better (the greens were really delicious and fresh, i wish i had gotten a whole salad instead of a half) and i also got a panini with veggies. at first they made it with cheese so i brought it back. there's a part of me that sometimes feels weird about that, mostly because while i don't feel ok participating in the dairy industry if i order something and it's brought to me, and i send it back isn't that just rude and wasteful. it's not like it's going to go anywhere except the garbage and that's to me sometimes feels like worst then not eating cheese. but then i realize that my stomach would freak if i ate cheese so yeah. but yeah. opinions are welcome on this topic

dinner: in durham got to meet up with a co worker from my summer camp and we went to this cheesy 24hr diner and i got homefries with veggies sauteed with them ( a delicious idea that to me makes homefries feel more like a meal especially when going out with a lot of omni eaters for breakfast)

snacks throughout the day: had my snagged gala apple and some nuts from a trader joe's mix. so yeah good day .

i've got a show at duke university tomorow, should be fun!

Tuesday, November 10, 2009

so this is going to be my (ideally) daily blog of the creativity of eating vegan on tour, through all those truck stops and fast food joints of america. I currently travel with a reusable shopping bag filled with stolen cereals from hotel continental breakfast's as well as a small cooler that i fill with ice every morning. it's a good time.

i might try and take pictures we'll see what i can get done.

today in atlanta georgia

breakfast: rice milk from my cooler with honey nut cheerios from the hotel lobby, not too shabby

snack: bbq chex mix (deliciousness, and I love bbq and I didn't want to eat potato chips so it's a nice alternative)

lunch: delicious thai food from Kokai Thai bistro 5495 jimmy carter blvd nocross, ga 30093. great food and cute paintings of chickens on the wall. there I had: veggie spring rolls pad-seu with fried tofu, broccoli, beans, carrots, and green onions with a peanut sauce. (this tour I have eaten my first thai food and have fallen in love with it! i love pad seu and love that each time i eat it it kind of tastes different, loves it)

dinner: I'm not 100% sure yet. maybe i'll have some more bbq chex mix or the pear with acai cup or maybe an apple. i'm not really that hungry.

ps the walmart in athens alabama had the worst produce section ever (minus the delicious snap peas whichi i am obsessed with) the lettuce i bought yesterday is already rotten, even though i've refridgerated it both nights.

so yes! first post enjoy!
